Considered by many to be the best frankincense in the world. It comes from trees growing on Jebal Samhan, the highest mountain range in the region.  The monsoonal rains, blowing in from the sea-plains below, do not reach the top of this mountain range, although climatic conditions are generally much damper and colder than elsewhere in Dhofar. Hojary Frankincense has a more woody scent than Nejdi, distinct and beautiful. Effective as an mosquito repellant. Thoroughly addictive!

The name 'myrrh' comes from the ancient Aramaic word for 'bitter', and is the same in modern Arabic. Myrrh was once worth its weight in gold, valued for its medicinal and anti-bacterial qualities, which made it an essential ingredient in Egyptian embalming recipes and saw it exported from the Middle East all over the ancient world, as far away China.  Traditionally burnt at funerals to ease the soul's passage, myrrh is also used as a spiritual and space cleanser.  The scent of burning myrrh resin is a dark, warm, woody aroma, very unlike the sweet incenses we are used to. It can be used on its own or burnt with frankincense.

Our resin burner is a traditional southern Omani style, hand-made by Dhofari women. These clever clay pots are designed to hold smouldering coals, lifting the hot base of the coal-holder (in the upper layer) away from whatever surface they are set down on.
